The first-ever officially sanctioned state qualifying meet for Iowa High School Girls Wrestling will be held this Friday across the state, with local athletes competing in central Iowa.

The Pella girls team — also made up of athletes from Pella Christian and Knoxville, will head to the Iowa Events Center for their regional meet. Head Coach Adam Hale looks forward to making even more history with this group.

“Top four girls in each of those brackets will earn a trip to the first ever sanctioned girls wrestling tournament. We’re excited about being a part of that next piece of history.”

Pella is competing in Region 4. Area schools Indianola, Norwalk, Pleasantville, and SE Warren/Melcher-Dallas are scheduled to wrestle at the Iowa Events Center as well, but in Region 3. Matches begin at 11 a.m. Friday.
