Man appears in court after he’s accused of stabbing his father to death on Dayton Street

UPDATE: Detric Marshall appeared in court on Thursday morning for the first time since being arrested for the fatal stabbing of his father. Marshall could be heard crying with his head down. in Rochester City Court.

According to court documents, Detric Marshall’s brother Napolan was also arrested at the scene. Authorities say he attempted to prevent Detric from being taken into custody and injured an officer.  

Detric marshall is due back in court on January 31 at 10:30 a.m.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police say they arrested a man for stabbing his 70-year-old father to death inside the home they shared on Dayton Street off Hudson Avenue on Wednesday night.

Police say the stabbing happened because of a dispute. Officers responded around 9:40 p.m. to the home and found the father, Charles Marshall, with multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to Strong Hospital where he died.

After responding to the stabbing, officers arrested the son, 39-year-old Detric Marshall, on North Clinton Avenue, just over a mile away. He was charged with second-degree murder and will appear in Rochester City Court on Thursday morning.

RPD says Detric Marshall was on probation for a drug conviction at the time of the stabbing. He also had an outstanding bench warrant with the Village of Perry Police Department for failing to appear in court on a prior arrest for the operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.
