Kangmin Justin Kim, Lauren Decker, Sophie Michaux, Emily Birsan Headline Haymarket Opera Company’s 2023 Season

Haymarket Opera Company has unveiled its 2023 season.

It all kicks off with Scarlatti’s 1693 oratorio “La Giuditta.” The work will star Emily Birsan, Sophie Michaux, Sarah Brailey, William Dwyer, and David Govertsen. Craig Trompeter leads a chamber ensemble. The performance will take place at Gannon Concert Hall at DePaul University’s Holtschneider Performance Center.

Performance Date: March 24, 2023

That will be followed up by the fundraising gala “The Early Opera Cabaret,” which will feature favorite baroque arias and other selections.

Performance Date: April 20, 2023

Next up, Haymarket Opera Company presents Hasse’s “Marc’ Antonio e Cleopatra.” The opera stars Kangmin Justin Kim and Lauren Decker.  Chase Hopkins directs alongside Wendy Waszut-Barrett. Craig Trompeter conducts the Haymarket Opera Orchestra alongside harpsichordist Michael Beattie.

Performance Date: June 23-27, 2023

 The season comes to a close with Francesca Caccini’s “La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall’Isola d’Alcina.” Sophie Michaux, Scott Bruncheen, Lindsay Metzger, Hannah De Priest, Quinn Middleman, Michelle Mariposa, Justin Berkowitz, Michael St. Peter, Schyler Vargas, and David Govertsen headline the cast. The opera will be directed by Sarah Edgar with Craig Trompeter conducting.

Performance Date: Sept. 29 – Oct. 1, 2023
