The Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery is getting an expansion.
A ceremony was held on Wednesday at the cemetery in Boulder City to mark the official start of the expansion.
Nevada's Department of Veteran Services says the expansion will ensure that it will continue meeting the needs of veterans and their families in our community.

The funding comes from a grant of over $5 million going to new ground plots, sections, and columbarium walls, plus more than 5,400 in-ground cremation plots.
Funding will also pay for new roads, sidewalks and landscaping in the expansion areas.
Boulder City Mayor Joe Hardy says that the expansion is necessary for our community.
Veterans Memorial Cemetery is the second busiest cemetery of its kind in the nation, with more than 50,000 veterans and family members interred on its grounds.
