The Oregon State baseball team was close to making it to the College World Series but fell short to Auburn in super regionals last year.
And after losing eight players to the 2022 MLB draft, many players that have been waiting their turn will have the opportunity to show what they can do.
Head coach Mitch Canham said that this year's team is a team of bad guys - not meaning that they're bad people or that they aren't performing well, but he said that players have to come into practice and compete against each other for spots and hold one another accountable every day.
"They're very kind and sweet and they take care of other people, but they also push each other,” Canham said. “When it comes to the field and their field, they're not nice; they all want to start. They all want to be the everyday guy. They all want to win and the more you do that, the more you get that guy out of the way if he's not doing it right. You're not being mean; you're being competitive."
The Beavers will face New Mexico to kick off the 2023 season on February 17 at the College Baseball Classic in Surprise, Arizona.
