Rochester, NY (WHAM) - It looks like we're heading into a colder and potentially snowier weather pattern over the next few weeks in WNY. I guess that news shouldn't be a big surprise considering that we're only two weeks away from the heart of Winter.
A sloppy, wet snow fell across the area today which mixed with sleet at times. Snow amounts weren't exceptional, but in a Winter that's only featured around a foot of snow it was very noticeable.
Today was a firm reminder that we're living in WNY at the end of January. As of this writing winter weather advisories continue for most of WNY through 10pm tonight. It looks like most of the frozen precipitation is done for WNY at this point.
We'll also see plain old rain showers through the course of this evening and tonight. Colder air will gradually return Thursday and create a little bit of lake effect snow. Snow amounts should be less than 1" for Thursday.
Friday looks relatively quiet with even a small chance for some sunshine. It would be the first sunshine for the area since Monday of last week.
Late this weekend another system will bring some light snow to WNY. The early outlook is suggesting very manageable snow amounts with only a few inches, we'll keep you posted on that system.
The cold air will gradually build next week with high temperatures back in the upper 20s and overnight low temps in the teens.
This is much more seasonable for this time of year compared to air temperatures that we've experienced recently.
