As NFL teams began looking for their next head coach, Sean Payton seemed like the hottest name on the market. However, things have now cooled on Payton as teams think twice about hiring the former New Orleans Saints' head coach.

Payton has interviewed with numerous teams in the league such as the Denver Broncos, Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers. He has an interview scheduled with the Arizona Cardinals. However, Payton has yet to secure a second interview with any NFL franchise. Teams have begun to look elsewhere as Payton is no longer viewed as the prized jewel of this year's coaching carousel, via the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

“When this all started the assumption was as soon as Sean Payton knows where he's going to go then everyone else will know where they want to go and the coaching searches will resume from there. It has now reached a different point,” Rapoport said. “If you go through the different places Sean Payton has interviewed, it does not seem like a second interview is coming with all of those places.”

“As of right now, it does not seem like there is a place for Sean Payton,” Rapoport continued. “It does not seem like there is a place in the coaching world right now.

Any team acquiring Payton knows they'd have to give up high draft capital to the Saints, who still own his rights. They would then have to sign Payton to a long-term contract.

Payton does have 152 wins, a Coach of the Year and a Super Bowl title to his name. However, perhaps NFL teams are starting to believe Payton isn't worth the price.
