Santa Barbara Humane reports increase in adoptions and use of pet services in 2022

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif.– Santa Barbara Humane had a historic 2022 through low-cost or free medical services, training and behavior programs, and an open-admission shelter policy.

Santa Barbara Humane's 2022 highlights included:

• 20,426 animals received affordable or free expert veterinary care
• 1,031 dogs learned important behavioral skills through free or low-cost humane behavior training
• 1,666 animals were adopted into loving homes
• 722 animals were transferred in from overcrowded shelters

The shelter saw an overall 32 percent increase in pet adoptions, a 78 percent increase in the use of low-cost or free medical services made possible through the TLC fund, and an 134 percent increase in the number of dogs enrolled in training programs.

These Santa Barbara Humane programs eliminate veterinary and training costs many pet owners face that cause owners to surrender, abandon, and discontinue care of their animals.
