Another member of the Crane family will join Frasier for the Paramount+ revival.
Newcomer Anders Keith has been cast as Niles and Daphne’s son David, our sister site Deadline reports. He joins fellow franchise newbie Jack Cutmore-Scott (Deception), who was previously cast as Frasier‘s son Freddy.
Additionally, the revival has added Jess Salgueiro (Y: The Last Man) as Freddy’s roommate Eve.
The character of David was born in the original series’ 2004 series finale. TV parents David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves are not currently attached to the revival. In the sequel series, David is “an awkward college freshman with a penchant for off-kilter observations,” according to the character breakdown. “He has Niles’ intelligence, Daphne’s smile, and neither of their polish. David’s unearned confidence may confuse some, but Frasier has a fondness for his nephew’s earnest enthusiasm.”
Eve, meanwhile, is described as “spontaneous, outgoing and bursting with creative energy…. With an innate ability to connect with both Frasier and Freddy, Eve is a critical bridge between father and son as they attempt to reconcile.”
Kelsey Grammer will star in the streaming followup, reprising his role as the snooty psychiatrist he originated on Cheers and then took to his own NBC spinoff, which ran for 11 seasons and won five straight Emmys for best comedy series. In the new show, “Frasier is off to a different city with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.” British actor Nicholas Lyndhurst will co-star as university professor Alan Cornwall, Frasier’s old college friend.
A premiere date for the revival has not yet been announced.
No Niles
No Daphne
No Thanks.
Yeah, you’re right.
No Sam
No Norm
No Woody
No Way
I understand David Hyde Pierce not wanting to return regularly to play a character he feels had its day, but I hope he won’t rule out the occasional cameo, because that just feels unreasonable. If the son they named after him actually works as a character, along with the rest of this revival, then please David. All the fans would need is a visit from Niles and Daphne to banter with Frasier, hug their son, and an emotional remembrance of their father Martin.
Just a minor point but their son was named after David Angell, the show’s creator who died on one of the flights of 9/11. Just a coincidence it’s DHP’s name too.
But I agree with your point, hopefully he and Jane will pop up at some point.
Anyone getting the sense that Frasier will be a college professor in this one? The friend is a college professor, the nephew is in college. Frasier in academia is a premise that could have potential.
I’ll judge after I see the final product.
So this Even character is the new Daphne? Daphne served as a bridge between Frasier and Niles’ world and Martin’s.
I not sure if I’ll watch it or not but I really hope they don’t kill Daphne and Niles off do Fraiser is the only family David has (in the US at least).
I LOVED Frasier, but sadly, you cant go home again.
I hope there’s a dog named Eddie!
I’m genuinely excited to see this, even though most of the old cast are not returning. The new character dynamics sound interesting so far!
I also hope that with this revival, LEGO will finally release a Frasier apartment set. lol
Does anyone know if Bebe Neuwirth will return?
No Niles, no Daphne, no Eddie and no Roz I will give it the courtesy of three episodes, but I’m not holding my breath. So far revivals have been awful Will and Grace, Night Court, Full House, Murphy Brown, how I butchered your father and that 90’s was barley passable and don’t get me started on the dramas… Xfiles
May be Niles and Daphne moved to UK to look after her elderly, crazy parents so they are not following Frasier on his new job at university? That would also means we don’t see David’s younger sisters, at least until they finally make their special cameo appearance
