MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Republican Party is said to be pushing to have the McHenry County Board declare the county a “gun sanctuary” in light of the state’s new assault weapons ban.
The McHenry County Republican Party last week voted to urge the McHenry County Board to pass a resolution naming the county as a gun sanctuary. According to the Northwest Herald, if a county board member draws up a resolution, it could be taken up at a committee meeting next week and voted on next month.
So far, County board chairman Mike Buehler said no resolution has been proposed. McHenry County’s sheriff has already indicated he will not have his deputies enforce the new assault gun ban.
