A Lancaster County restaurant has landed at No. 11 on Yelp’s annual Top 100 Places to Eat in the United States.
Two other Pennsylvania restaurants also made the list.
Yelp said the 2023 list is the 10th annual compilation of “the best local eateries, including food trucks, cafes and delis.” Yelp said it analyzes reviews on its platform and considers suggestions from the community to compile the list.
“From food trucks and sandwich shops to fine dining establishments, the Top 100 list reflects the diverse tastes and uniqueness of our community of users,” said Tara Lewis, Yelp’s trend expert. “It is powered by the people, not a small group of restaurant critics, and we look forward to consumers continuing to share their dining experiences in their reviews.”
Coming in at No. 11 is Chellas Arepa Kitchen in Lancaster.
“This roadside trailer is like a portal to South America, thanks in large part to its delicious take on Venezuelan arepa sandwiches.
The traditional corn cakes are stuffed with a wide array of Peruvian-Venezuelan ingredients, influenced by owner Luis Quiroz’s upbringing in Peru. Customers line up for faves like the Lomo Arepa, which is loaded with grilled steak, sauteed red onions, tomatoes, and fried yuca, then drizzled with a house-made chimichurri sauce,” Yelp said.
Popular dishes at Chellas Arepa Kitchen include the Pernil Arepa, “which combines honey-barbecue pulled pork, plantains, black beans, and melted cheese into a sweet and savory sensation that’s ‘done to perfection.’”
No. 1 was Broken Mouth in Los Angeles, California. The other two Pa. restaurants on the list are in West Chester and Pittsburgh.
No. 51 - Two Birds Cafe, West Chester
Two Birds Cafe, according to Yelp, serves made-from-scratch food and there is often a wait to eat there. Popular foods there include very large icing-topped cinnamon buns, Crumb Lovers coffee cake, French toast, Cali Benedict and fried Brussels sprouts toast.
No. 96 - Pitaland, Pittsburgh
Pitaland, Yelp said, “turns out some 10,000 of the pocket breads each day, supplying area restaurants and bakeries as well as its own cafe. ... In its 53 years in business, Pitaland has fulfilled a lot of roles: deli, pita bakery, Middle Eastern market, and cultural center for countless immigrants wanting a taste of home — think delicious mezze plates, flatbreads, pita sandwiches, and traditional Middle Eastern desserts like baklava.”
