The third time was definitely the charm for one Massachusetts State Lottery retailer on Tuesday, Jan. 24 when it sold three winning $20,000 Keno tickets.

The American Veteran James J. Rice Post 28 in Dorchester sold each of the three winning $20,000 Keno tickets.

Keno is a drawing game where players first select 1-12 numbers, or “spots,” to play. Then, players must choose a number from 1-80 for each spot they chose to play. The Massachusetts State Lottery stated players can manually select their numbers, or they can opt for a computer-generated Quic Pic ticket.

Players also must choose how much they want to wager on each drawing, from $1 to $20, and select how many drawings they wish to play with the same numbers. Keno players can choose to play up to 30 consecutive drawings with the same numbers. For an optional bonus, Keno players can also select to mark Keno Bonus to double the price of their wager for a chance to multiply their prize up to 10 times.

Each spot has a different prize, and the prize according to the amount of numbers matched when playing Keno also varies. Because it is unclear how much money was wagered for each $20,000 Keno prize won on Jan. 24, it is also unknown at this time how many spots were selected.

Keno drawings take place every four minutes every day, starting at 5:04 a.m. and ending at 1 a.m. Players can also watch Keno drawings or check their numbers on the go by downloading the Massachusetts State Lottery App, the lottery said.

Overall, there were 574 winning lottery tickets worth at least $600 sold or claimed in Massachusetts on Tuesday, including eight in Springfield and 20 in Worcester.

The Massachusetts State Lottery releases a full list of all the winning tickets each day. The list only includes winning tickets worth more than $600.

The largest lottery prize won in Massachusetts so far in 2023 was worth $31 million. It was won from the Jan. 24 Mega Millions drawing, and the winning ticket was sold from a Stop & Shop in Belchertown. That $31 million prize is the sixth-largest prize won in Massachusetts State Lottery history.
