LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — After a fairly snowless start to the year across mid-Michigan, winter returned to the region Wednesday.
As of roughly 5:10 p.m. Lansing had registered just under 5 inches of snow.
But even with snow falling for several hours Wednesday, that did not stop people from driving on the roads to run their errands and to do their jobs.
Since about 10 a.m., 6 News reporter Darrylin Horne has been driving around and talking to others who were brave enough to get in their cars and fight the slick roadways.
They all shared one tip: just be careful.
”Everybody is going slow,” said one Lansing-area driver.
Shiney Mack of Lansing was one of many out on the roads Wednesday, and this is far from the worst experience he’s had driving in wintery weather.
“1978 when they had the blizzard, I was on my way from Chicago. It took me 26 hours to get home from Chicago, so I moved to L.A., but, I love snow!” Mack said.
He said the key to making it home safely is to not just monitor your own driving, but to look at others too.
Eaton, Ingham, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, and Jackson counties have been under Winter Weather Advisories. That includes the cities of Charlotte, Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Jackson.
Areas closest to the Michigan/Ohio border have been seeing the highest snowfall totals from this system.
Additional snowfall will be possible every day through the weekend, with the potential for even higher snow accumulations before the start of next week.
