GERRON: THIS MORNING LOCAL LEADERS WILL MEET TO DISCUSS HOW TO PREVENT VIOLENT LIME IN MILWAUKEE -- VIOLENT CRIME IN MILWAUKEE. THERE IS BEEN AN INCREASE IN VIOLENT CRIME. THERE HAS BEEN A 33% INCREASE IN NONDEADLY SHOOTINGS THIS YEAR BUT HOMICIDES HAVE GONE DOWN 44%. EARLIER THIS YEAR, MAYOR CAVALIER JOHNSON DISCUSSED WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO COMBAT VIOLENT CRIMES IN THE CITY. >> THERE’S NO ROOM ON THE SIDELINES FOR FOLKS, EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION AND EVERYONE CAN CONTRIBUTE. THAT MEANS TEACHERS, PREACHERS, FRIENDS, PARENTS, NEIGHBORS. GERRON: POLICE CHIEF JEFFERY NORMAN SAYS ARGUMENTS AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ARE THE CAUSE FOR MOST CRIMES IN MILWAUKEE. >> WHAT WE DO KNOW IS THAT CONFLICT, ARGUMENT, AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS CONTRIBUTING TO THAT INCREASE. IN FACT WE BELIEVE IT IS ALMOST HALF OF THOSE NUMBERS OF INCIDENTS FOR CONFLICT, ARGUMENT, AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE THAT CONTRIBUTES TO THE INCREASE IN HOMICIDES. GERRON

Serious crime in Milwaukee down 15%, homicides still trend upwards

Local leaders are meeting to discuss how to prevent violent crimes in Milwaukee.This year there's been a 33% increase in non-deadly shootings compared to 2022.Earlier this year Police Chief Jeffery Norman said arguments and domestic violence are the cause for most crimes in Milwaukee "What we do know is that conflict, argument and DV is contributing to that increase. In fact, we believe it's almost half of those numbers, incidents for conflict argument/domestic violence that's contributing to those homicides," said Norman.

Local leaders are meeting to discuss how to prevent violent crimes in Milwaukee.
