Following charges of domestic abuse, false imprisonment and battery, High on Life studio, Squanch Games has parted ways with its co-founder, Justin Roiland.
Earlier this month, Justin Roiland, the Rick and Morty co-creator and co-founder of Squanch Games, was charged in Orange County, California. The charges were made in relation to altercations which occurred in January 2020.
Roiland pleaded not guilty to the charges in October 2020 but was ordered by the courts not to make contact with the alleged victim or be within 100 feet. He was also released on a $50,000 bail. Furthermore, Roiland was also ordered to relinquish firearms that may be in his possession; that court order is set to expire in October this year.

Following the charges made against Roiland, the official Rick and Morty Twitter account informed its followers that Adult Swim has not only parted ways with the co-creator, but the series will continue with the leading roles being recast.
However, High on Life studio, Squanch Games has now followed Adult Swim’s lead and has accepted Roiland’s immediate “resignation”.
“On January 16, 2023, Squanch Games received Justin Roiland’s resignation,” tweeted the studio's official account. “The passionate team at Squanch will keep developing games we know our fans will love while continuing to support and improve High on Life”.

Earlier this month, T. Edward Welbourn , the attorny in charge of Roiland's defence said in a statement: “To be clear, not only is Justin innocent but we also have every expectation that this matter is on course to be dismissed once the district attorney’s office has completed its methodical review of the evidence."
At the time of writing, a final trial date for the changes made against Justin Roiland has not been set. We'll update should we hear of any further developments on this story.
