Carl D. Morris, 91, lifelong resident of Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully at home Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, while holding the hand of his loving wife of more than 71 years, Carolyn.

Carl was born June 19, 1931, at Crawfordsville, to the late Hamilin and Nettie (Cope) Morris.

He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1949. Carl proudly served in the United States Army with the 999th Armored Artillery Field Battalion during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 72. Carl was an avid Chicago Cubs and Purdue University fan.

During the 1960’s and 70’s, Carl and Carolyn owned and operated the Big Dipper in Crawfordsville. He was employed for 43 years at RR Donnelley, where he was a layout man for World Book. Carl always told his daughters, Carla and Caren, to “look it up in World Book.” Carl enjoyed retirement working for many years at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Survivors include: wife Carolyn (Wiatt) Morris; daughters, Carla (Frank) Endicott and Caren (Doug) Branson; his dearly loved grandchildren, J.D. Ames, Clay Endicott, Niki (Dave) McMahon and Carlos Anthony Branson; great-grandchildren, Caiden Ames, Chloe Ames, Nolan McMahon and Lily McMahon; close special friend of the family, John Lamb.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ben Morris; and grandson Ben Ames.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1306 E. Main St., Crawfordsville, where friends are invited to visit from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
