Man shot dead as he pulls into driveway of Akron home, police say

AKRON, Ohio — A 32-year-old man died Tuesday evening after he was shot in his vehicle as he pulled into the driveway of a home in the Sherbondy Hill neighborhood, police say.

According to police, it’s unclear how many suspects might be involved in the shooting, which was reported at about 6 p.m. on the 800 block of Haynes Street, which is just west of downtown Akron. Police say the victim was unresponsive when officers arrived.

The man was pronounced dead at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center. His name is being withheld pending identification and family notification. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.

A home on the 400 block of West Bartges Street and a parked car also were struck by gunfire but there were no other reports of injuries. Several shell casings were recovered at the scene, police say.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing. Police did not release information about a possible motive.
