The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory ahead of a system that will bring rain and snow to the Kansas City area.
That advisory went into effect at 6 p.m. and will run through noon Wednesday.
KMBC 9 First Alert Meteorologist Nick Bender said light rain would begin to mix with snow between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. near and south of I-70. For Kansas City, the rain/snow mix isn’t expected to begin until closer to 9 p.m.
Rain will quickly change over to all snow overnight through Wednesday morning. The most likely time for snow accumulation will be from around midnight through 6 a.m. Wednesday, though light snow showers will linger through 11 a.m.
Roads Wednesday morning could be slick and slushy, with the potential for even some streets and roads to be covered in snow. Snowfall amounts along, and east of I-35 will range between 1 and 3 inches, with the potential for some spots to reach 4 inches near I-70 and 50 Highway in central Missouri.
Communities North and West of I-35 can expect a dusting of up to 2 inches of snow.
Stay with the First Alert Weather Team for updates through the Wednesday morning commute.
