Toyota has been working on an all-new Tacoma and its design has apparently been reveal in new patent photos.

Noticed by Motor1, the images show a Tundra-inspired pickup that looks virtually identical to the electric truck concept that was introduced in late 2021.  Despite the similarities, the truck in the patent photos is apparently ICE-powered as it trades a fully enclosed grille for a more traditional mesh one with a single bar near the top.

Elsewhere, we can see Tundra–esque headlights that reside above angular intakes.  The model also sports rectangular fog lights and air curtains that are integrated into the front fender flares.

The Tundra-inspired design continues further back with heavily stylized fenders and a familiar greenhouse.  We can also see two-tone wheels, car-like side mirrors, and a prominent accent that runs through the lower doors.

Out back, the truck sports an edgy tailgate and C-shaped taillights that echo those found on its larger counterpart.  They’re joined by a relatively plain rear bumper and a small sliding section in the rear window.

Toyota has been tight-lipped about the upcoming Tacoma, but it’s expected to ride on the same platform that underpins the larger Tundra.  Engine options are more mysterious, but the truck could be offered with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder developing around 265 hp (198 kW / 269 PS) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque.  There have also been rumors about a hybrid variant, which would be a first for the mid-size truck segment.

While a number of questions remain, the 2024 Tacoma is expected to debut later this year and battle the redesigned Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon as well as the new Ford Ranger.
