Officials working to combat opioid epidemic in Springfield

A Chicopee firefighter, accused of a weekend stabbing that killed his girlfriend who worked at the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office, faced a judge Tuesday morning.

It’s a sign of spring as river levels rise, along with plenty of rain, but this year, it’s been anything but normal.

Fourteen people have been arrested following a recent deployment in Springfield by local and state law enforcement.

No other injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation of the Pittsfield Fire and Police Departments.

They hope to change the state law still allows farmworkers to earn 8 dollars an hour without guaranteed days off, or overtime pay for the entirety of farming season.
