L.A. County coroner identifies Monterey Park shooting victims

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KNX) - The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office released the names of the victims who died in Saturday night's shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park.

The names are as followed:

-- My Nhan, Female, 65

-- Lilian Li, Female, 63

-- Xiujuan Yu, Female, 57

-- Muoi Ung, Female, 67

-- Hong Jian, Female, 62

-- Yu Kao, Male, 72

-- Chia Yau, Male, 76

-- Valentino Alvero, Male, 68

-- Wen Yu, Male, 64

-- Ming Ma, Male, 72

-- Diana Tom, Female, 70

Four of the victims were publicly identified on Monday.

Nine people were injured in the mass shooting. Three were hospitalized at L.A. County-USC, with one in serious condition, the L.A. County Department of Health Services announced. The other two were "recovering.” On late Monday afternoon that one of them, identified as a 73-year-old woman, was discharged.

At 10:22 p.m. the Monterey Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio. About 20 minutes later, the gunman went to Lai Lai Ballroom Studio in Alhambra where Brandon Tsay confronted the suspect and took the gun away. The suspect took off.

Around 11 a.m. Sunday, Torrance police and deputies with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office surrounded a white van believed to be connected to the shooting.

The suspect was found dead inside the white van from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was later identified as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran.
