Early Tuesday morning on January 17, 2023, angels gathered Gloria in their  arms and brought her to her final resting place, heaven.

Gloria was also known by many as “the Glo worm”, was born in Camden, AR to Allean (Burris) and JC Johnson ( both deceased) on November 14, 1948. She was  the second of 3 siblings. Her older brother Mac Arthur preceded her in  death.

Once Gloria graduated high school , she left her  home  town  and went  to Chicago to  join three  of  her aunts.  She became restless there  and signed up  for  the  Job Corps.  During her stint in  the  Job Corps, Gloria spent time  in Albuquerque, NM, Portland Maine and lastly Boston, MA.  She fell in love with  Boston and  remained until  her death.

During her  time in  Boston, Gloria worked  as  a  daycare teacher (Jamaica Plain Daycare) for many years. She decided  that she wanted to do more to help people. While still working at  the  daycare center, she enrolled in Wheelock College Social Worker program. Gloria received  her BSW in 1987. Still  being an adventurous person and still having  the passion for knowledge, she enrolled in Boston College Master of  Social Work program.  She graduated from  Boston College with a MSW degree. Her work path sent her on several social service agencies missions–Italian Home for  Children, Family Services of Greater Boston, Peabody Properties and Boston Housing Authority and a few more.

Gloria leaves behind one sister, Dorothy of Boston, brother, Charles lives in Detroit; one niece ,Tanya TX,  4 nephews Jonathan(Boston), Carlos, Marco, and Jamal( CA). She also leaves  behind 2 aunts and one uncle and many cousins and  friends.

No flower donations please. if you want  to  honor Gloria’s memory please contribute  the following organization, Hearth Inc  1640 Washington Street Boston, MA 02118 either through  financial contribution  or volunteering, Gloria was  all about helping , especially seniors.

Later in  the Spring when  the  weather  warms up, her sister  and nephew  will  be  having a  memorial for Gloria.
