I-82 was closed near Zillah on Wednesday as police tried to talk to a suicidal man. Zillah Police say the incident was reported at about 3:40 Wednesday afternoon when Officers responded to a hotel to contact a man about a call earlier in the day. When Officers arrived they say the man became upset and fled on foot toward Toppenish via Meyers Road or Exit 52.

It's time for a spring cleanup. Yakima city officials say if you live in a specific area of the city Saturday is your clean-up day. A city press release says those residents who live in the area "from East R Street to East Yakima Avenue and between Front Street and North 10th Street can participate in a free cleanup from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm this Saturday. Residents in this area can bring their items to temporary collection sites at Barge Lincoln Elementary School, 219 East I Street, and the Old Mill (corner of East H Street and North 6th Street), where large dumpsters will be available for the clean-up activity."

Two men charged as juveniles in a double homicide in Parker in 1988 were re-sentenced on Tuesday in Yakima County Superior Court. Herbert "Chief" Rice Junior and Russell McNeil both 17 at the time of the killings and were sentenced to life in prison without parole. But a Supreme Court Ruling found juvenile can't be sentenced to life in prison. Under the re-sentencing that happened on Tuesday the men will now be released from prison in five years. After the release the two men will be under the jurisdiction of the state sentencing board.
