IMPD: Man found dead from stabbing in downtown Indy; suspect arrested

INDIANAPOLIS – Police are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was found dead on a sidewalk in downtown Indianapolis.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Illinois Street around 1 a.m. for a report of a person down.

When officers arrived, they located a man lying on the sidewalk with an apparent stab wound. Medics arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 50-year-old Cornelius DeWayne Coleman.

IMPD said 30-year-old Nicholas Radford has been arrested in connection with the case, which is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers did not indicate what happened prior to the stabbing.

Police were interviewing witnesses and working to obtain video from surveillance cameras in the area.
