Portland will start the work week with a slight chance of light rain or drizzle and mostly cloudy skies.
The National Weather Service says the best chance of patchy rain or sprinkles will be along the coast and in the north Coast Range. Some rain is possible north of a line from about Tillamook to Portland. Clouds will continue to move through the area into the afternoon. The high will be about 44 degrees.
Skies should clear overnight as high pressure begins to build into the region. With clearing skies, Portland could see some fog and low clouds by Tuesday morning. Roads may be slick in areas were the morning low temps dip near freezing. How long the fog lingers will help determine the high temperature for the day. It’s possible daytime highs won’t make it past the low 40s. Once the fog does clear, skies will be mostly cloudy, and the high temperature could reach 45 degrees.
High pressure continues to dominate the weather into Wednesday. Fog is possible early in the day followed by partly sunny skies. The high should reach about 47 degrees.
Consistent winter-time high pressure brings the possibility of air inversions where pollution particles are trapped on the surface and contribute to poor air quality. It’s possible northwest Oregon and southwest Washington will experience some air quality issues later in the week due to inversions.
Extended forecasts are showing a good chance of dry weather through the end of the week. Highs will remain in the mid-to-upper 40s.
