Lo and Behold, Blue Bloods‘ Danny Is Dating Again — Do You Approve?
The following contains a romantical spoiler from the Jan. 20 episode of CBS‘ Blue Bloods.
Well, I was all set to power down the Sony Bravia and hit the hay, when Blue Bloods widower Danny Reagan decided it was time to get himself back out there on the dating circuit — and with a very particular someone.
Danny’s return to dating, five-and-a-half years following wife Linda’s tragic death in a medevac helicopter crash, came about in a circuitous manner. The episode opened with Sid clumsily meeting with Frank, to make an appeal on behalf of a detective who years ago had been injured in the line of duty and now wanted to retire, since the lingering pain from her injury makes even desk work prohibitive.
Thing is, the lady detective, Laura Acosta, had been told she wouldn’t qualify for a full disability pension. Ergo Sid’s appeal to the commish. But Frank quickly gleaned that there was actually someone else in Detective Acosta’s corner — Danny.
Frank and Sid met with Acosta (played by Orange Is the New Black‘s Jessica Pimentel) to learn more about her years-ago accident, and she recounted how she and her partner were in the midst of a car chase when a multi-vehicle accident ended with their squad car being smacked by a truck. Her partner walked away fine, while she had a full year of recuperation from a crushed leg. Yet to this day, the pain on some days is bad, and on others it is worse. When pressed about any connection to Danny Reagan, Acosta revealed that she was covering his shift on that fateful night, as he was still reeling from Linda’s death and taking care of the boys. So, Acosta suspects, Danny always felt guilty about her situation.
But in meeting with Danny himself over a beer, Frank came to realize that it wasn’t so much any lingering guilt that was driving Danny to lobby on Acosta’s behalf, but… something more. Danny insisted that it wasn’t/isn’t like that, that he never got involved with Laura (though his face suggested it might have been on his mind at a time?). To which Frank counseled his son: Don’t make the same mistake that your grandfather and I did after being widowed ourselves. Open yourself up to the chance for new love, Frank intimated.
And the advice clearly worked, for we later saw Danny meet up with Laura at a bar, to deliver the news that her full disability pension had been approved, and assure her that she will still get to “see him” even though she is retired. And then at Sunday dinner, the ladies were quick to deduce that a dapper Danny had plans for after, that he was “glowing.” Danny brushed off the “glowing” bit, but did admit that he had a dinner date — at some “fancy” place, apparently — with Detective Acosta.
Cue a barrage of advice from women and menfolk alike, capped by Frank urging his son to lie about how crazy his family is!

Get Danny and Baez together. Stop this writer’s have a hard time with couples- if they do, get new writers and producers.

We had never seen this character in prior seasons. They just brought her out of the blue. No context or build up. What is behind this plot? It seems contrived. We do not like it.
It definitely seems contrived. Even she said Danny recommended her because he feels guild about her accident. There’s no real chemistry

What about Baez? I’ve thought that the writers was trying to get Danny and Baez where did this woman come from? It’s like the writers was trying to set up Elliot and Olivia together romantically but instead of getting them together romantically they writers send in another woman other than Olivia Benson to romance Elliot Stabler instead and of course I would asked what Olivia Benson? I’ve thought that the writers was trying to get Elliot and Olivia together romantically? Writers Please get Danny and Baez together romantically they love each other.

Yes I forgot about her. They would make a nice couple also. I think several viewers want to see him with Baez, but I say no I would like to see her with someone else that is not a detective.
Maggie is definitely my first choice!!! They have great chemistry together. I thought the show was heading that way but then nothing, very disappointing!

I agree he should start a relationship with Maggie, the psychic, mostly because of their very opposite opinions & beliefs. It would be fun to watch her interaction with Danny’s clan. She could certainly hold her own with Erin & Edie. This new woman, Laura, came out of nowhere. Should have been a previous introduction somewhere along the line.

Agreed. This was so random. Granted, at least they explained it a little bit. But the explanation is flimsy. She covered for him when he was grieving his wife’s death and she got hurt on a case that was supposed to be his, he felt guilty and.. now they’re dating? Huh?
The showrunners and writers for this series continue to give very weak and awful storylines to the characters, and now we’re expected to believe Danny has romantic feelings for a character we’ve never met and he’s never mentioned before?

I don’t watch the show..but he’s been single for years..maybe it’s just a date…maybe it grows or maybe it doesn’t…baez has been a partner for years..but proximity and even closeness and care aren’t the same as Attraction. This lady did him a solid when he was down..and got wrecked..I know at the very least I’d care what happens to that person..if also at the same time I started feeling ready to try and open up…maybe someone who doesn’t know all the ins and outs and actually knew my dead wife isn’t the first option if I’m putting myself out there..just my two cents again..don’t really watch the show..but my grandma loves it so Ive seen a bit
I like the people commenting that they will no longer watch the show because of who Danny has a date with. This seems a bit extreme. We don’t even know what happens after the first date yet?

The writers are phoning it in this season. What a half baked storyline. Not impressed with this at all. The fools should have never killed Linda in the 1st place.

Well I would be amazed if the first lady he dated would be the one, they have slow played Baez for years now. The majority of fans want it but after watching Jamie and Eddie have to jump obstacle after obstacle to be together no way could the writers make it happen. I would guess she will be endgame when the show ends.
Isnt acosta the same last name of the woman that asked danny to set her brother straight and called him danny the cop. She approached him about getting together but he said it was too early. Is this her sister or ?

Wow…we all know a relationship with his partner won’t work so I was really waiting for the negative comments because she is a woman of color. Isnt it possible that the other women are not available for the role and have other commitments? You want a character similar to Linda? You mean white? How do we know they are not similar in personality? I, for one, am looking forward to seeing the relationship develop…and after years of watching the show won’t stop because Danny’s love interest is a woman of color.

I’ve read the comments about Danny’s dating and I asked the question, what the hell are the writers thing? Blue Bloods is loosing its grip. Its the only show I record on regular TV.
I am glad that he has found someone to be with. I hope that it will be written in his favor for more dates. I would also like to see Erin, Frank and Henry have dates as well as Baez. I mainly want the show to stay on the air for a long time.

Not only is the person out of the blue, there is a background story that has been going on for years and this is the first we hear about it? Seems rushed and very unplanned. Can’t buy it.
Agree!! We are all rooting for Danny to find someone but Maggie would have been much more believable. I like Baez and her friendship with Danny but I must be in the minority because I don’t feel like she’s strong. She’s always there but in the background.
I’m glad he’s dating. Would’ve wanted it to be someone we previously met like the Psychic. I know it Would’ve been repetitive but I prefer Baez. She and daughter would b good additions to the table. However I guess he’ll date around a bit n then conclude that she’s endgame. I don’t know Acosta enough to root for her but let’s see if she grows on us. She maybe a good fit the longer she’s around n we’ll start shipping
So if BB holds to their own history ( which is the question now since they can’t even remember that Joe Sr. was born in June 1977 not January 1977) this would make the second time in Danny’s personal history that someone else was injured or killed in the line of duty covering for him. The first was when he was Iraq after he sprained his ankle and the kid covering his post was killed by a sniper.
