New anti-Kavanaugh documentary to be screened tonight at Sundance Film Festival

The Sundance Film Festival announced Thursday it has added a documentary about allegations made against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh to its lineup.

The film, titled Justice, is directed by Doug Liman and produced by Amy Herdy and claims to provide “harrowing accounts, disturbing revelations, and shockingly direct lies” from Kavanaugh.

Kim Yutani, director of programming for the festival, said they were “moved” by the late entry to the festival.

“We were fortunate to see Justice later in the programming process and were moved by its resolve to raise questions and provoke dialogue,” Yutani said. “Documentaries have always been a crucial aspect of the essence of Sundance and reflect the influential power of storytelling. We are honored to amplify this impactful work that dares to challenge through the addition of Doug Liman’s film.”

Liman says the film will pick up “where the FBI investigation into Brett Kavanaugh fell woefully short.”

“It shouldn’t be this hard to have an open and honest conversation about whether or not a justice on the Supreme Court assaulted numerous women as a young man,” Liman said. “Thanks to this fantastic investigative team and the brave souls who trusted us with their stories, Justice picks up where the FBI investigation into Brett Kavanaugh fell woefully short.”

Liman added that the film “examines our judicial process and the institutions behind it, highlighting bureaucratic missteps and political power-grabs that continue to have an outsized impact on our nation today. Sundance gave me and countless other independent filmmakers our big breaks, so it’s especially meaningful for me to return with my first documentary.”

The synopsis of the film also discusses Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez’s allegations against Kavanaugh of how he allegedly sexually assaulted them in the 1980s. The FBI in 2018 said it found “no corroboration of the allegations” levied against Kavanaugh, and he has denied the accusations. He was confirmed to the Supreme Court in a 50-48 vote in October 2018.

The documentary is set to be screened at Park Avenue Theatre in Park City, Utah, at 8:30 p.m. local time Friday.
