EDNA, Texas — The Edna high school track is being refurbished ahead of the 2023 track season.
The track used to be a blue color, but now it is gray. The reason for the color change is because the blue would tend to fade-out after a few years of use. The hope is that with the new gray color, the color will stay and look new longer.
According to Edna superintendent, Robert O’Connor, the process of respraying the surface, paint, labor and materials will cost the school district $120,000. He said this price tag is significantly less, if routinely done, than replacing the entire track every several years. The potential cost for replacing the entire track could cost upwards of one-million dollars.
Edna head football coach Jimmie Mitchell said the school district takes care of facilities and takes pride in having nice things, which a couple of the reasons he loves Edna so much.
The project started in the first week of the 2023 and is expected to be done Jan. 20 with the athletes able to get on the track Monday Jan. 23. Hosting a track meet on Feb. 23.
