Christina Applegate’s Daughter Sports Sentimental ’90s Outfit At Critics Choice Awards

Christina Applegate attended the Critics Choice Awards this Sunday and she was joined by her daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble. This has been an especially meaningful time for Applegate on multiple fronts. This is Applegate’s first big award ceremony since she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). But her daughter also brought some sentimentality in her outfit.

Applegate has twice been married; her second husband – and Sadie’s father – is rock band bassist Martyn LeNoble. The two tied the knot in 2013, roughly three decades into his music career. As a result, Martyn cultivated a lot of connections in the industry and through this, Sadie was able to wear a very significant garment when she attended the ceremony with her mother.

The 28th Critics Choice Awards this Sunday celebrated the best feats in television and film. For Applegate, that meant celebrating her work in the Netflix black comedy Dead to Me, for which Applegate was nominated for best actress in a comedy series. Back during the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, Applegate received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

As for her daughter, Applegate explained some interesting history behind Sadie’s outfit. On January 17, Applegate took to Instagram to share a photo of herself and Sadie standing side-by-side in dark attire. “Just a fun fact,” Applegate said in the caption, “the suit my kid is wearing was Scott Weiland’s suit from one of his solo album covers. Scott gave my husband, Martyn, that suit long ago in the glorious 90’s Also we were quite a pair last night. She fractured her ankle this week, hence the boot, and me…MS.”

Applegate is back in the limelight in earnest, all while battling MS. But that also means returning to the headlines – for better and for worse. Ahead of her Critics Choice Awards appearance, Applegate read some coverage about her. In the comments section of one People article, she saw someone comment on her appearance. When Applegate replied saying that it “wasn’t nice,” she was met with “MS didn’t make you look that way a plastic surgeon did.” Still, ahead of the ceremony proper, Applegate admitted to feeling “nervous” but “grateful” for this chance again after mobility aids became a new norm for her and threatened to derail her acting career.

She’s had a very supportive team by her side. Martyn has been an invaluable source of support through Applegate’s MS battle. “I’m very grateful to Martyn for coming along at a time that he did because he’s been my rock through all of this,” she praised. “He gave me something to really want to live for and something to smile about.” He also gave the family a very interesting story to tell, thanks to his friendship with Stone Temple Pilots lead Scott Weiland and Weiland’s readiness to give away one of his iconic suits. Sadly, Weiland died in 2015, making this tribute especially meaningful. This truly was a powerful ceremony.
