In 1993, country singer Mark Chesnutt released “I Just Wanted You to Know” as the third single from his fourth studio album, Almost Goodbye

The song then climbed all the way to the top of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart as well as on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart. This makes it Chesnutt’s third consecutive No. 1 hit from the said album. The other ones are “It Sure Is Monday” and the title track, “Almost Goodbye.”

On the other hand, the Almost Goodbye album became Chesnutt’s third consecutive album to receive platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.

Meaning Behind The Song

Written by songwriters Tim Mensy and Gary Harrison, “I Just Wanted You to Know” finds Mark Chesnutt having a hard time getting the woman he once loved out of his mind. So, he gave her a call to let her know that while he has let her go, he thinks of her from time to time and lets her memory take control.

“Cause now and then what might have been interfaces with what might be,” the song goes. In the end, he vowed not to call her again.

Just like most songs by Mark Chesnutt, “I Just Wanted You to Know” was straightforward and honest, with his traditional country and honky-tonk voice singing what’s on the mind and heart of a man longing for an old lover. Pretty sure others in similar situations would relate to it.

Tune in and listen to “I Just Wanted You to Know” by Mark Chesnutt in the video below.
