The City of Ellsworth is seeking community members to volunteer as members of the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee.

The comprehensive plan is a guiding blueprint for the City that embodies the values, priorities, and future needs of the community as a whole, while also protecting its history and natural resources.  The plan will cover future land use, zoning, expansion of utilities, economic development, transportation, housing, and regional coordination.

Members of the Steering Committee will work collaboratively with City staff and officials, hired consultants, and the public to draft the final plan and hold community meetings to discuss topic areas critical to the City’s future.  The Comprehensive Plan process will take about two years.

The Steering Committee will consist of 12 members. 4 of these members will be from the City Council and Planning Board.  The remaining 8 members will be selected from the Ellsworth community at large.  The Steering Committee will meet a minimum of 15 times over a two-year period at a day of the month and time to be determined after members are selected.

Applications for the Steering Committee can be found on the City’s website. Paper copies can be picked up in the Planning Office at City Hall during normal business hours.  The deadline for application completion is February 7, 2023 at 4 p.m.  The City’s Planning Board, acting as the Planning Committee, will review applications and make selections for the Steering Committee at a special February 15, 2023 meeting.

Any questions can be directed to the City of Ellsworth Planning Department, 207-669-6615,  or emailed to mwilliams@ellsworthmaine.gov.
