The announcement plays the "global phenomenon" card for the hit series.

The only question about Wednesday getting a second season was what was taking Netflix so long to announce it. After debuting in November to huge viewership — according to Netflix, the show has crossed the billion-hours viewed mark and ranks as the #2 most watched U.S. show on the platform ever, after Season 4 of Stranger Things — the Addams Family reimagining was a virtual lock to return. That announcement is now official, coming via a video where star Jenna Ortega, in character as the dark and dour title character, thanks the viewers for the exquisite torture of all this attention.

"Over the past few weeks, I've been hunted, haunted, and mimicked millions of times across the internet," says Wednesday, specifically referencing the viral popularity of Wednesday's frug-adjacent dance routine. "It's been pure torture," she says, with that signature Addams fondness for pain. "Thank you."

The delay in the announcement had been causing some to speculate that Wednesday might be getting moved to Prime Video, since Amazon purchased MGM in 2022 and Wednesday is produced by MGM Television. Those rumors were unfounded, but anxiety over Netflix canceling shows has been elevated lately, after the seafaring mystery series 1899 was axed after just one season. Netflix's renewal of Wednesday put those fears to bed for good, and fans can start looking forward to the new season.

The announcement video leaned heavily on the "global phenomenon" angle, showing clips of crowds of Wednesday fans screaming at fan events and apparently giving Tim Burton an Eva Peron moment on a hotel balcony. Speaking with Tudum, Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said they were "thrilled to continue Wednesday's tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first."
