PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Post Falls holds off Sandpoint in IEL play

| December 10, 2022 1:15 AM

POST FALLS — Saddled with some early foul trouble, Post Falls needed a little bit of help from everyone on the roster to help the Trojans out of an early hole against the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs on Friday night.

Junior Letti Asper scored 12 points, five in the first half, and senior Capri Sims 17 points for the Trojans, who fell behind 6-0 before bouncing back for a 65-55 Inland Empire League win at The Arena.

“Sandpoint gave us a good game tonight,” Post Falls coach Brian Hall said. “We didn’t play well on defense and they got some of our players in foul trouble. Letti really stepped up and got to the basket when some of our other players couldn’t because of fouls.”

Freshman Kailey Walton hit two 3-pointers for Post Falls (7-0, 3-0 IEL), which outscored Sandpoint 20-14 in the fourth quarter.

“Every point in that fourth quarter was needed,” Hall said. “There wasn’t much breathing room and we really had to step it up in the fourth quarter. Letti really kept us in the ballgame tonight with her defense and rebounding and Kailey did a great job defensively.”

Kelsey Cessna and Aliya Strock scored 15 points each for Sandpoint (2-2, 0-2), which hosts Priest River today.

Post Falls hosts Mt. Spokane on Tuesday.
