Friday Night Lights: Hornets set to face off against No. 2 passer in FCS for chance at semifinals
After a victory last Saturday against the Richmond Spiders, Sacramento State's football team will host their second consecutive home playoff game on Friday night against the University of the Incarnate Word.
The Spiders gave the Hornets all they could handle in their previous game, but Sac State was able to overcome a 14-point deficit in heavy rain conditions to win 38-31 and remain undefeated.
Sacramento State will face another strong opponent this week.
Incarnate Word is the highest-scoring team in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision, led by senior quarterback Lindsey Scott, who has the second-most passing yards and passing touchdowns in the FCS.
Sac State's two quarterbacks, Jake Dunniway and Asher O'Hara, will need to be efficient, and running back Cameron Skattebo will need to be as dynamic as he's been all season to put the Hornets in the best position to make their first playoff semifinal appearance as a Division I team.
Skattebo only ran the ball nine times and caught the ball once against Richmond, his lowest amount of touches in a game this year.
Dunniway and O'Hara struggled for stretches but made big plays in the final quarter. Tight end Marshel Martin and wide receiver were both very productive in Saturday's game, both scoring and catching for over 100 yards.
Friday could be the final game with the program for Sacramento State head coach Troy Taylor, who is a final candidate to fill Stanford's head coaching vacancy next year, according to ESPN.
The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Hornet Stadium.
