SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- After engaging police in a high-speed chase and shootout Monday morning, a Detroit man and teen are facing assault charges, and a third suspect is still on the loose.

On Monday, December 5, Southfield Police observed three men hanging around outside a business wearing ski masks. When officers attempted to make contact, the three fled in a red sedan stolen from Macomb County.

The suspects then led law enforcement on a high-speed chase.

One one them -- identified as 21-year-old Detroit resident Jammie Kyle Maclin -- fired a shot at the officers before police rammed the men's vehicle, police said.

After the collision, all three suspects attempted to flee on foot. While two were apprehended, one remains unidentified and at large.

17-year-old Jaylen Docoy McGowan of Detroit was also arrested and has been charged with assaulting and resisting a police officer. His case will be transferred to Wayne County, possibly to the juvenile court system.

"A high number of the violent crimes are non-Southfield residents," Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren told WWJ's Ryan Marshall. "They come from all over. So it's important to understand that the Southfield Police Department, we're paying attention to what goes on in our community."

Barren also discussed how Southfield PD is tackling the ongoing challenge of crime in the city.

"We have upgraded out technology. As you saw, with our drones. We have license plate readers. We have police officers who are out here, really committed to investigating suspects."
