Students and staff at Fillmore Elementary are on edge tonight after their school became the target of a fake bomb threat this afternoon.
Fox 25 arrived to the scene a bit before 3:00. Our crews saw teachers and students waiting outside while the Oklahoma City Police Department investigated.
"I can't explain to you what my heart is feeling right now," Parent Elizabeth Fuller said. "I can't explain to you what my heart was feeling on the way up here before I even saw them."
Fake threat or not, some parents didn't take any chances on December 9.
"We jumped into action," Parent Christian Elizalde said. "We just stay right down the road. So we just jumped in, came here within a minute and saw there was police here doing their job."
A scary moment for many students.
"Half of the people in my class were crying," Student Cole Smith said. "I was only scared. I couldn't find Conner."
Conner Smith is his brother, and he didn't let the situation affect him.
"I didn't have a bad school day," Conner said. "I did hard work."
Something his mother Elizabeth says she was relieved to see.
"Conner didn't notice anything was wrong," Elizabeth Fuller said. "I'm relieved the teachers here handled things very calmly."
Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) says it takes all threats seriously, and student threats are prohibited. The district's full statement can be read below:
"The police have given us the all clear and students are now back in the building. Students are being released to families who are on site and regular dismissal will take place at 3:10pm as usual. Law enforcement officials are also on site to provide additional support.
OKCPS takes all threats seriously and any statement that might threaten or imitate a threat to our students is prohibited and the student(s) involved will be disciplined according to our Student Code of Conduct.
Please rest assured that the safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority. You can help by remaining vigilant in your own safety practices and by reporting any suspicious or threatening behavior directly to OKCPS’ 24 hour hotline at (405) 587-SAFE.
Thank you for your continued support of Fillmore Elementary and OKCPS."
"I'm glad the police officers were here and got things under control pretty quick," Elizalde said.
People have been making threats all week in places like Enid, Stillwater and now Oklahoma City.
"It's happening all across the country," Fuller said. "Not just here. So, this is a fear in everybody's mind."
Elizalde had a message for whoever is making these threats.
"Y'all crazy people man, please leave our kids alone."
Right now, police are still investigating where the call came from.
