Netherlands vs Argentina will be the second quarter-final of World Cup 2022 with a familiar face of European football tasked with officiating this one.
Antonio Mateu Lahoz of Spain will be on the whistle of the fixture and you might recognise him from the bright lights of the Champions League. Given how both sides have plenty of history – and a reputation for not lying down without a kick out at the opposition, Mateu Lahoz may have his work cut out.
Having refereed La Liga games since 2008, Mateu Lahoz has worked his way up in European football. He took charge of the 2021 Champions League Final between Manchester City and Chelsea and has become a regular during the competition.
Both linesmen also hail from Spain. Pau Cebrian Devis and Roberto Diaz Perez Del Palomar will be running the line for this one, with the fourth official for the game from South Africa – Victor Gomes will be on the touchline. There's a Spanish Video Assistant Referee, too, in Alejandro Hernandez.
Hernandez's VAR team are from all over the world. The Spaniard will be assisted primarily by Drew Fischer of Canada, with Offside Video Assistant Referee of Alessandro Giallatini on standby, too. Support Video Assistant Referee for this one is Julio Bascunan of Chile, while Standby Assistant Video Assistant Referee is Corey Parker, of the United States.
It's a big officiating team, however for the World Cup and the appointments for this fixture don't stop there. There's even a Reserve Assistant Referee in Kyle Atkins: he also hails from the United States.
