An East Hartford man with multiple outstanding warrants was arrested and charged in connection with a trailer theft in Manchester on Thursday, according to police.

The Manchester Police Department responded to Spencer Street near the exit of Interstate 384 in Manchester around 3 p.m. Thursday for a call from a witness reporting a white pickup truck with a flat tire in the area. The caller believed that the truck was involved in the theft of his trailer and had been following the vehicle in East Hartford, according to police.

A second caller then told police that a white pickup truck was racing through Downey Drive and had stopped after it lost a tire. The caller told police the driver then fled on foot toward East Hartford and might have been carrying a firearm. Police later determined through witness accounts that a firearm was not seen, police said.

Police from Manchester and East Hartford responded to the area and the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Andre Jorden of East Hartford, was found hiding in a shed on Arbutus Street, police said.

Jorden was arrested and found to have outstanding warrants, including one stemming from the white truck he was seen driving. The truck was reported stolen out of Middletown, according to police.

Jorden was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, first-degree criminal trover, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, evading responsibility and operating a motor vehicle without a license. He was also served three outstanding warrants for violation of probation, police said.

He was held on a $170,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Friday.
