A woman died and a man is in critical condition after an apparent murder-suicide situation in Washougal on Thursday, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies say 73-year-old Carol Rossi was pronounced dead at the hospital. Roberto Rossi, 78, remains in critical condition.
Someone called 911 shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday to report a gunshot inside a home near Southeast Sunset View Road and Evergreen Highway in Washougal.
A sheriff’s sergeant looked inside the home and saw someone on the ground and a man slumped over sitting at the kitchen counter.
After forcing their way inside, law enforcement started first aid on the Rossis, who both had gunshot wounds to the head but were still breathing.

Carol and Roberto were both taken to a local trauma hospital.
The sheriff’s office Major Crimes Team is investigating the shooting.
On Wednesday evening the sheriff’s office was called out to an incident in Salmon Creek where a man shot a woman and their infant child before fatally shooting himself. The baby and woman are both listed as being in critical condition as of Thursday.
