Harrison residents said Thursday they are happy to finally see improvements to get them back into their apartment complex two weeks after a fire displaced them.

Thirty-two families have been out of their homes since Nov. 22 after the fire at 3 Calvert St.

Residents said last week that they were upset because they had not received answers to their questions.

On Wednesday, residents received a letter from the apartments' management that says their team has been working hard to restore the apartment complex to safe and habitable conditions.

The building also has heat and electricity again.

Residents like Gillian Clearly sees it all as great news.

"I mean I see them in the building working," Clearly says.

The same letter also states that the building cannot be reoccupied until all building code issues have been resolved, which means there is no time frame.

Clearly, however, said Thursday she is just happy to know that she might be able to go home, gambling on her own timeline.

"I believe I'll be home by Jan. 1. I have no reason to believe that the work wouldn't be completed by Jan. 1," she said.
