MONROE COUNTY (WWJ) – A Michigan State Police sergeant who was shot multiple times while working undercover in Detroit has returned home after more than two months of recovery and rehab.

Family, friends and community members welcomed Sgt. Devin Kachar home in Monroe County on Thursday. He had been at a rehab facility recovering from injuries he suffered in the Sept. 27 shooting.

Kachar, a 10-year veteran of the force, was working an undercover narcotics case at the Infinity Apartment complex – near Schoolcraft and Telegraph on the city’s west side – early that morning when he was shot.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

MSP tweeted video of Kachar’s return home on Thursday, with a police escort as people lined the streets with signs and flags.

A fundraiser to help Kachar and his family has been set up through the Thin Blue Line of Michigan. MSP officials shared a tweet with instructions on three ways to donate.

Two people have been charged in the case – 28-year-old Andrae Scott, Jr., and 23-year-old Robin Hall. Scott was charged with assault with intent to murder, possession with intent to deliver cocaine and two counts of felony firearm. His bond was set at $1 million.

Hall was charged with accessory after the fact to a felony and lying to a police officer. She received a $250,000 cash bond.

MSP officials said at the time of the shooting they used an aviation unit to track the suspects to Romulus, where they were arrested. At the time, police had a standoff outside the apartment, as they weren’t sure whether the suspects were still inside.
