One man is in custody after a standoff in Tooele that lasted several hours.
Tooele Police Corporal Colbey Bentley told KUTV 2News the man was being booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault after reportedly pointing a gun at two people.
Officers received a call about that incident around 12:45 p.m. Thursday on Elk Meadows Loop Road, near Skyline Drive and Deer Hollow Road, said Bentley. The man went inside his house and proceeded to fire off approximately 20 shots over a period of 60 to 90 minutes, Bentley said.
During this ordeal, SWAT responded to the scene, and neighbors in the area were ordered to leave or shelter in place.
Just before 4:00 p.m., Bentley said the man came outside and was taken into custody. No one was hurt.
"We’re standing out here, and we can hear shots being fired off by this male, going off in all different directions," Bentley said. "You tend to start to think that it may not end in a best-case scenario, but we have a situation where the public is safe, our officers are safe, and the suspect is safe, which is a win-win scenario for everyone."
Officers from multiple agencies responded to the incident.
The man's name and age were not immediately released.
