Empty Bowls lead to full stomachs, full hearts in Nicholasville

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Students at The Providence School made bowls for the Empty Bowls event Thursday. The Bowls weren’t empty for long.

Students spent the semester making and designing these bowls to be purchased by the community. They also spent the afternoon serving hot meals. The students made more than 200 bowls in the span of one semester. Part of the funding raised goes to organizations that need a helping hand, while some of the money goes right back to the school’s art program, ensuring that the Empty Bowls event can continue year after year.

Former student Emily Ferguson came back to help. She was very impressed with the student’s skill in designing the bowls, and she said their drive to serve the people in the community makes it even better.

“It feels good because I’m showing them how to continue a culture that we’ve started for years, and it feels good to see them, see them continue. It feels good. Finally, it’s been three years. It feels good to finally see it happen again. I didn’t think it was going to happen again for a long time,” Ferguson said.

The program made a grand return after pandemic closures. Students were full of energy as they watched their designs be complimented by visitors and served meals with smiles.
