A Brewery District music spot is now scrambling to find new sound equipment after being forced to temporarily close after thieves broke into the venue over the weekend.

"I feel very violated," said Yalan Papillons, owner of Double Happiness, a concert spot on South Front Street.

"I don't know who would do something like this," Papillons said, "because we had so many great shows here and helped so many bands."

For more than a decade, music has filled the stage at the concert venue and restaurant, where many artists have come to perform.

"We've had Japanese Breakfast, Lightning Bolt, Lizzo," Papillons said.

The concert venue temporarily shut its doors after crooks burglarized the business Sunday morning. Stealing $14,000 worth of sound equipment, including speakers and a soundboard.

"That was something I saved a lot of money for, " Papillons said, "I spent my own savings. "

Thieves also stole a cash drawer filled with money and several bottles of liquor.

Papillons told ABC 6/FOX 28 that the community is offering sound equipment to the business to get performers back on stage.

"We are just going to try and piece together sound equipment and do as much as we can," she said.

The business does not have insurance coverage for the stolen items.

When Double Happiness re-opens on Saturday night, artists will perform as part of a fundraiser to buy new sound equipment for the long-time music spot.

The fact that people are reaching out and encouraging me to still keep going means a lot,"

Anyone with information about the break-in can call Columbus Police at 614-645-4545.
