Oregon's recently-infamous psilocybin dispensary, Shroom House, faced a police raid after weeks of speculation on the store's legality and operations.
The Portland Police Bureau confirmed on Thursday morning that officers had served warrants, raided the shop, seized evidence, and made arrests.
According to KATU's news partners at Willamette Week, former employees were paid by an LLC, which was created back in April by Steven Tony Tachie Jr.
Jail records created Thursday morning show Tachie Jr. is booked into the Multnomah County Jail on multiple counts of money laundering and manufacturing or delivering a schedule I controlled substance.
Shroom House had been a topic of media and public interest for several weeks, given it was a self-identified "wellness shop" that made no pretense about selling psilocybin in a dispensary setting, which is not legal in Oregon.
Lines would stretch for blocks as Portlanders waited to buy the magic mushrooms, which some say help with conditions like PTSD and anxiety.
There had been much speculation prior to the raids about the store's operations, methods of selling and collection of payment, and accumulation of customers' personal data.
The shop had previously existed in a legal no-man's-land for the months it was in operation, with the Oregon Health Authority stating the shop's investigation needed to be done by the Portland Police Bureau, with the Bureau saying the investigation was under the jurisdiction of the Oregon Health Association.
