Avoid holiday utility scams

The holidays are a wonderful time of the year, but also a time when scammers try to find new targets.

How to avoid utility scams:

• Emails are not secure. The Fort Worth water utility will never ask residents to provide personal information via email.
• The utility will never ask residents to buy a prepaid debit card to avoid service disruption.
• Fort Worth Water employees never need to enter a home to take water samples or to investigate a water or wastewater issue.

What to do: Report suspected scams to the Fort Worth Police Department and notify the Fort Worth water utility at 817-392-4477.
