For the eighth year in a row, the Women and Children’s Center of the Sierra (WACCS) is hosting their adopt-a-family holiday program.
This year, 277 families signed up for the program, an increase of more than 20% over last year. WACCS is seeking the community’s help as there are still more than 130 families on the list who have not been adopted.
The majority of families are Latinos and there is a reason for that.
"For our program, families do not need to be citizens and their children also do not need to be in order to participate in this program," says outreach coordinator Alex Nevarez.
Pam Russell the executive director of WACCS says giving gifts at Christmas time is important for children. When they find out Santa has brought them something, they feel a sense of belonging.
When one adopts a family — one can select the size of the family they wish to help. They then will receive a wish list created by the family. Once the purchases are complete all that is left to do is drop them off at the Women and Children's Centers of The Sierra located at 3905 Neil Road.

Para el octavo año en fila, las Mujeres y el Centro de Niños de la Sierra (WACCS) recibe su programa de vacaciones de adoptar-familia.
Este año se han inscrito en el programa 277 familias, lo que supone un aumento de más del 20% respecto al año pasado. WACCS solicita la ayuda de la comunidad, ya que todavía hay más de 130 familias en la lista que no han sido adoptadas.

Cuando uno adopta una familia puede seleccionar el tamaño de la familia a la que desea ayudar. A continuación, recibirán una lista de deseos creada por la familia. Una vez que las compras se han completado todo lo que queda por hacer es dejarlo en los Centros de Mujeres y Niños de la Sierra situado en 3905 Neil Road.
