Mayfield holding remembrance events on 1-year tornado anniversary

MAYFIELD, Ky. (FOX 56) — Dec. 10 marks the one-year anniversary since a series of tornados swept through western Kentucky, causing catastrophic damage and numerous fatalities.

In Mayfield, a town hit particularly hard by an EF4 tornado on that night, the community is using the opportunity to organize two remembrance events.

Both events are scheduled for Saturday, with the first being a free memorial walk hosted by the Graves County Fraternal Order of Police and the Graves County Volunteer Fire Association.

The two-mile walk will begin at 9 a.m. at what once was the Mayfield Consumer Products site before being leveled by the tornado. You can register for the event here.

Later in the day, a remembrance service given the name “A Celebration of Hope: We Will Remember”, will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Graves County High School Gymnasium.
