Staff report

Former Kent State women's golf coach Mike Morrow became the 54th member of the WGCA Coaches Hall of Fame during an induction ceremony on Sunday at the Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas.

A Kent State alumnus and All-American for the men's team, Morrow developed the Golden Flashes' women's program from the ground up in 1997. His teams dominated the Mid-American Conference with championships in all 14 of his seasons at the helm. The 2001 Golfweek National Coach of the Year and two-time Central Region Coach of the Year led Kent State to four NCAA championship appearances and 12 NCAA regional appearances.

The Flashes totaled three WGCA All-America honors and 13 MAC Golfer of the Year awards under Morrow's guidance. His student-athletes also excelled in the classroom, earning CoSIDA Academic All-America status on three occasions and WGCA All-American Scholar accolades 31 times.

A native of Stow, Morrow was the first All-America golfer in Kent State history, earning honorable mention in 1973. He was the MAC medalist that year and earned All-MAC honors for three consecutive seasons (1973-75). He was inducted into the Varsity "K" Hall of Fame in 1987.
