The drivers killed Wednesday when a car traveling the wrong way on a Massachusetts highway collided with two other vehicles were identified as a New York woman and a Southbridge man, authorities said Thursday.

In a statement, the Massachusetts State Police said Susan Celauro, of East Norwich, New York, was at the wheel of a Subaru Legacy traveling westbound on the eastbound side of Route 20 in Charlton when her car collided with a tractor-trailer and a Honda Fit around 11:30 a.m.

First responders rushed Celauro, 63, to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where she was pronounced dead, state police spokesperson David Procopio said.

The collision caused the Honda to be pulled under the tractor-trailer, killing the driver of the car — 35-year-old Alexander Owanisian, Procopio said. Owanisian was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured.

Procopio said state police troopers are still investigating the crash and the reason Celauro was traveling on the wrong side of the highway.

The crash occurred about a half-mile east of where Route 20′s four lanes intersect Old Worcester Road and Carroll Hill Road.

Procopio said the tractor-trailer — driven by a 29-year-old Mystic, Connecticut, man — was pulling a large boat at the time of the crash. During the collision, Owanisian’s Honda was pulled under the trailer carrying the boat and dragged for a short distance, he said.
